Gary Harris, Associate Pastor:

Gary is from the East Coast, the East side of Prince Edward Island to be exact. He has been married to Trisha (another “Islander”) since 1996. Gary and Trisha have 4 children – Wesley, Chloe, Caleb, and Sitota. Gary transitioned from his career as a commercial scuba diver into ministry in 2003.

Since 2003, he’s been TAC’s Associate Pastor. Gary focuses on co-ordinating Sunday mornings as well as giving oversight to our youth ministry and community groups. He loves to hang-out with family and friends, play sports, and read. Gary and his family are avid campers and love to experience God’s glory through His magnificent creation.

His heart is encouraged by these favorite verses: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

Janelle Hoos, Director of Children’s Ministries:

Janelle was born in Edmonton but grew up in small towns throughout Western Canada. She graduated from Canadian Bible College with a degree in religious education and worked with children as a professional caregiver and a volunteer educator.

She is married to Aaron and they share a passion for books and coffee. Janelle also has a passion to see children grow in their relationships with God and with others and her ministry stretches beyond teaching children to include equipping parents and teachers as well. She feels that the children of today are the world-changing believers of tomorrow and her passion is echoed in Psalm 78:4-7: “We will not hide these truths from our children but will tell the next generation about the glorious deeds of the Lord. We will tell of his power and the mighty miracles he did… so the next generation might know them – even the children not yet born – that they in turn might teach their children. So each generation can set its hope anew on God…” (NLT).

Doug Smart, Pastor of Community Life:

Doug was born and raised in Scotland until his parents immigrated to Winnipeg when he was a teenager. Doug has been married to Esther for fifty years this year (2012) and they have 2 children, Mike, Shelly, and 4 grandchildren.

Doug came to salvation at TAC more than 40 years ago and has been serving part time as Pastor of Community Life since 2002. Connecting with newcomers to the church, helping people fit in at TAC, and counseling people occupies the majority if his time. Doug’s passion is to see people come to faith in Jesus and to help them grow in their walk with Him. He also loves to invest in younger men’s lives in a mentoring role.

He enjoys hanging-out with family and friends, working out at the local YMCA, and watching a soccer match or a good 12-round boxing bout on TV. Doug is an avid reader and consumes many books every year, and loves to be with his wife, children and grandchildren as much as possible. Doug loves life and his favorite passage is Psalm 16. One of the verses that stands out is: “The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; Indeed, my heritage is beautiful to me.”

Sondee Comrie, Office Administrator:

Sondee is a life-long Winnipeg resident. Although she no longer lives in Transcona, she still considers TAC her church home. Married to Kevin for 30 years, they are very proud of their daughters and sons-in-law, Chelsea (and Jason) and Randi (and Josh). Serving as office administrator is one of the ways she helps to fulfill her passion for seeing God’s church grow.

What does Sondee bring to the TAC team?  She provides individuals who perform certain tasks at TAC with an equal opportunity to succeed. Driven by her talents, she is a huge “team player”. She has a pleasant, cheerful, and cooperative disposition.  Instinctively, she consistently puts forth effort to achieve excellence @ TAC, concentrating on using other’s talents, skills, and/or knowledge to get the job done.  She has a reputation for pointing out things others fail to notice.

She brings energy to others so they feel enthusiastic about a position they have taken, or an innovative idea they have proposed. As soon as she’s resolved to do something, she announces, “Let’s get started right away.  We can do this!”   She knows how to spotlight the best ideas people share with her.

Sondee lives and breathes by the inspirational Isaiah 40:31, which says, “but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

Kim Vanderhooft, Financial Administrator:

Kim is a life-long Transconian. She has been married to Don for 28 years. They both love their large family gatherings, which include daughter Aryssa and sons and daughters-in-laws, Donovan &  Ashley, Joshua & Vanessa, Daniel & Heidi. Kim has attended TAC for 18 years. She serves in the office at TAC as the Financial Administrator.

What does Kim bring to the TAC team? She is adept at dealing with problems.  She is good at figuring out what is wrong and resolving it.  She is the team member who instinctively sees what needs fixing or realizes what could be done to better excel.  Kim is also able to recognize and cultivate the potential in others.  Driven by her talents, she likes to lift the spirits of those around her.

Kim enjoys being able to share & study God’s word by providing leadership to a weekly ladies Bible study at various times throughout the year.

Kim’s life verse is Philippians 4:4-7, “ Rejoice in the Lord always.  I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all.  The Lord is near.  Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer & petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts & your minds in Christ Jesus. ”
